Defense tech recruiting
Talent for the companies the mission depends on
Talent services for defense and national security companies. Give us a few sentences on the person you need, including the ones with no clean job title, and we go and find them.
The Arena consistently introduced us to candidates who were highly qualified for our team's specific needs, not just those who matched keywords on a job description. Beyond that, they've done an outstanding job representing us authentically in a space that's far more nuanced than traditional talent acquisition. Their ability to understand and communicate our unique story has made all the difference.

Where companies come to us
First federal hire
Entering the federal market for the first time. You need someone who brings credibility in a space you are still learning, and who will not need you to teach it to them.
Growing federal teams
You have proved the motion and now need to scale it, without the playbook a larger company would already have.
Emerging players
You know the market, but you are competing for the same people as companies with far bigger names. The pitch has to be better than theirs.
What we do
Search is the bread and butter. The rest exists because working with companies at two and ten people made it obvious that a candidate is rarely the whole of what they need.
Direct-hire search →
We find the person, you hire them directly.
Forward deployed recruiters →
A recruiter embedded in your team, not a vendor on a call.
Hiring strategy and process design →
Build the hiring function, not just make the hire.
Talent and market intelligence →
Where the people are, what they cost, who else wants them.
Fractional and advisory talent →
Senior people part-time, for the roles you cannot justify full-time yet.
How we run a search
The business, then the team, then the role
We do not start from a job description. We start from what you are trying to do and who you already have, because that is what decides who the right hire actually is.
We source for your company, not the title
Not "a software engineer" but one who will succeed here, at this stage, with this team. We go after people who are not looking, and you see a short list with the reasoning on each name.
Your process, examined
A candidate’s experience of your interview process is their impression of your company. Where yours is costing you people, we say so.
Through the first 90 days
Offer, negotiation, start date, and the months after it. The relationship does not end at signature.
What clients say
The Arena quickly understood our mission and found us the perfect fit under 10 days from beginning the search: someone who not only had the federal experience we needed, but also experience with the problem we were solving from their time in active duty. This hire is foundational for us.
Pete Warden, CEO, Moonshine AI
As Spear AI grew from 20 to 76 employees in 2025, they consistently brought us candidates who understood the mission and could execute on day one. They operate as a true partner, not a transactional recruiter.
John McGunnigle, Co-Founder, Spear AI
Their deep understanding of federal sales helped us streamline our process, making hiring faster, smarter, and more effective. If you need top-tier sales talent that actually fits, they are the team to call.
Tim Ogden, CEO, Blue Ivy Partners
We publish what we learn
Running searches all day means we see this market before it shows up anywhere else. Most firms keep that to themselves. We publish ours, free and without a sign-up, because advising anyone on talent is only worth doing if we can show our work.

We serve those who serve us
Our clients build for the Department of Defense, which makes us a supplier to the people who supply the warfighter. It is a short chain and we take our end of it seriously. Why we work in one sector.
A few sentences is enough to start a search. If we are not the right firm for it, we will tell you that quickly rather than slowly.
